"Young Adulthood: The Lynchpin for Dementia Resilience Across the Life Course"

This talk introduces Next Generation Brain Health, an international, interdisciplinary research programme focused on dementia risk, brain health, resilience, and prevention across the lifespan- focused on young adulthood. Drawing on a global survey (5,000+ responses, 11 languages) and cross-regional qualitative research, the talk explores how younger adults understand brain health, risk, and responsibility, and where current prevention narratives fall short. The presentation will reflect on equity, lived experience, and the need to move beyond mid and late-life models of dementia research, highlighting opportunities for more inclusive, preventive, and impact-driven approaches within academic, clinical, and policy contexts.

Dr Laura Booi, PhD, MA, is a Canadian social gerontologist and Senior Atlantic Fellow for Equity in Brain Health at the Global Brain Health Institute, Trinity College Dublin. She is a Senior Research Fellow in the School of Health at Leeds Beckett University, UK. She co-leads the Next Generation Brain Health Programme; an international research initiative focused on brain health in young adults.
