Appel à contributions

Purpose of the call
The LIVES Centre invites applications for the organisation of one-day thematic workshops. Our aim is to fund up to four thematic workshops to be held in parallel on Thursday, 6 November 2025 at the University of Lausanne. These workshops should focus on a topic relevant to the understanding of the life course and/or vulnerability. They will provide an opportunity to invite renowned experts to present their research.
The organisers are free to choose their own programme of speakers. However, all workshops should follow the same time structure with three consecutive sessions (1: 9:30-11:00; 2: 11:30-13:00; 3: 14:00-15:30), allowing for a mix of 9 internal and external speakers per workshop. The common time structure allows for joint coffee breaks and lunches, and for other LIVES members as well as the academic community to choose freely between the parallel sessions of the four workshops. Depending on the participants’ wishes, a social moment can be organized at the end of the day (drinks or a simple dinner).
Funding
For these thematic workshops, LIVES will cover lunches and coffee breaks as well as travel expenses for up to 5 external participants (1 hotel night and, ideally, train travel within Europe).
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply, at least one applicant must be a senior member (holding a PhD) of the LIVES Centre, with a valid contract at the University of Lausanne or Geneva until the end of 2025.
Submission of funding applications
Applications must be sent to lives@unil.ch by 31 March 2025. Please submit the following information in English in one single PDF document (with the main applicant’s last name in the file name):
- A description of 150-200 words of the thematic focus of the workshop,
- A list of the LIVES members involved in the thematic workshop (only one workshop per member)
- A provisional list of the external colleagues whom the applicants wish to invite, with 1-2 key references (article, chapter, or book) per external colleague.
Acceptance criteria
Thematic workshops will be evaluated based on their expected contribution to the understanding of the life course and/or vulnerability. Moreover, workshops organised by several LIVES members from different disciplines will be preferred to initiatives by individual researchers or workshops organised around a single ongoing research project.
Timeline
Acceptance or rejection of applications will be communicated by 15 April 2025. If you have any questions, please contact nicolas.sommet@unil.ch.
